About this site

This site explains California's Zone 0 rule in plain English. Zone Zero Watch, our updates, tells you when it changes. It is made by someone who does this work on real properties.

It is run by Devan, a Sonoma County tradesman with more than 20 years in construction and landscaping. He also runs Ready Home Sonoma, a wildfire readiness service.

The site covers one thing: the 5 feet around your house. What Zone 0 requires, whether it covers your home, what to change, by when, and what it means for your insurance.

What this site is not

It is not a government site, a fire agency, a law firm or an insurance company. Nothing here is an official determination. For your property, your local fire agency has the final word.

How we keep it accurate

Every rule links to its source, and the rule status is checked regularly. See sources and methods.
