FAIR Plan adds discounts for wildfire safety work
The California FAIR Plan announced discounts for home hardening, including keeping a 5-foot ember-resistant zone around the house. They started August 23, 2023.
The 5-foot item includes fencing within 5 feet of the house.
The FAIR Plan's current list has 12 discounts. All 12 together take up to 16.4% off the wildfire part of a dwelling fire premium, for policies dated November 15, 2025 or later.
What it means for you
- If you have a FAIR Plan policy, a clear 5 feet can already lower the wildfire part of your premium.
